About Us

India won’t let you treat it like a postcard stop. It pulls you right in—its chaos and colors, its quiet corners and loud heartbeats—but only if you show up with real curiosity. That’s exactly why I started The Indian Odyssey: to step away from the glossy brochures and the same crowded spots everyone keeps posting about.

We chase the living pulse of the country: the deep silence high up on a Himalayan trail, the way your voice bounces off the rough stone walls of a forgotten Maharashtra hill fort, the ancient stillness inside Tamil Nadu’s temples, the shifting feel of the land as you travel from Gujarat’s edges all the way to Arunachal Pradesh.

I’m Sonia. For over three decades now I’ve been wandering these places—Rajasthan’s palaces, Tamil Nadu’s powerful old temples, and countless spots in between. Somewhere along the way I realised the truest travel advice never comes from apps or guidebooks. It comes from the dust on your boots, from chatting with the chai-walla at the trailhead, from taking the wrong turn that accidentally leads you somewhere magical.

On The Indian Odyssey you won’t just get descriptions. You’ll find those tiny, priceless details that actually change how you experience a place: the exact half-hour window when Udaipur’s lake turns molten gold at sunset, the quiet lanes around Sarnath where a handful of weavers still make pure zari Banarasi saris on traditional pit looms, away from the big commercial rush, or the narrow chaat gali tucked inside Jaipur’s Bapu Bazaar where the legendary stalls hide behind the shops, serving papdi chaat and golgappas the way they’ve been made for generations.

None of it is pulled from Google or someone else’s post. Every tip, every shortcut, every “go at this exact moment” suggestion comes from us actually being there—getting a little lost, asking around, talking to the uncle near the weaver’s door or the chai stall at the fort base, stumbling on something unexpected, then going back to make sure it’s still true.

That’s how everything here is built: real footsteps, real conversations, real surprises. If we haven’t stood in that dust ourselves, it doesn’t go on the page.

Hidden Heritage — lesser-known forts, stepwells, temples, carvings that barely get mentioned. We dig for the accurate details.

State-wise deep dives — thoughtful itineraries that blend the must-sees with the quiet spots only locals usually know.

Traveling gently — respecting the villages, not adding wear to ancient stones, supporting the people who call these places home.

Most of the photos you’ll see here are ones  taken while wandering these places—those imperfect, dusty, golden-hour shots that actually capture how it felt to be there. When I do use an image from a trusted local friend, partner, or artisan (someone who lives and breathes that spot), I make sure it’s shared with permission and credit where it belongs

Seasonally updated: We refresh the guides every season (last full check: January 2026) so things like timings, road conditions, safety notes, and permits stay as up-to-date as we can keep them.

That’s basically us. Not perfect, but honest about what we’ve loved, what’s frustrated us, and what keeps pulling us back to this wild, beautiful country.

Welcome to The Indian Odyssey. Come wander with us. 😊
